Fall came around a while ago as the obligatory rain here in the UK keeps reminding me and my first gut desire was to write you all a lipstick post in wake of the season. If you have been reading my blog for some time, you will already know that lipsticks are my biggest cosmetic weakness. Sadly, as I have explained in my previous post, time and situation did not allow it *sign*, I hope you will over look this deplorable delay.
It was so unbelievably difficult for me to pick out just a few lipsticks to table as my 'top' shades (or products I should say as there is a mixture), I love all my products and there were so many in my collection that fit the bill and deserve their time in the limelight. Painful as it was, I managed to control myself and cut it down to these seasonal seven...
When I imagine Fall I think jewel colors, bright, bold and vibrant and packed full of character (often other-worldly)! It is one of the most exciting and prettiest of seasons, and allows room for a little experimentation and dabbling and toeing the line of your comfort zone!
I have lipsticks, liners and a lacquer in store for you! Keep reading.
1. Illamasqua Utopia:
Now here is a peculiar shade! I am afraid the image you are seeing does it no justice, (regards to the dwindling light as rushed to get these photos taken) you will have to wait for the clearer swatches that are to come. I can only describe Utopia as '3D', and by that I mean it is not a single shade, my word, anything but! There is some antique-gold in there, a drop of orange-gold and a darker, deeper bronze interlace throughout the bullet. It has a metallic finish to it and feels matte-to-satin on the lips. Utopia has a magic touch, think 'faeries' as opposed to 'fairies'. Worn lightly it looks shimmery and intriguing, layer it and a darker character emerges with an almost Gothic edge!
2. MAC: Twig
Twig is one of those much loved shades that is almost impossible to get wrong. If I had to give it a new name, it would be 'Rosewood'. It is soft, gentle and earthy with a satin texture. Some times described as a nude shade, not because it is nude but because the shade feels so natural on the lips, it has color but does not attract divided attention, rather it complements an individuals complexion, their face as a whole. A comfortable, cozy color, is twig.
3. Rimmel Kate Moss: 04
Edging into danger zone now, for most people 04 is a shade you would pick up, glance at, and immediately put down. It is a blackened-purple with very little warmth to it. Worn on its on it can drain your face of color and make you look ill but teamed with plenty of bronzer and warm tones on the eyes, can transform it into something different and mysterious. Purples are so hot this season and adorning lips everywhere, perhaps the perfect time to try it out yourself?
4. Revlon: Black Cherry
Now this is a gem of a find. I have been searching up and down for the perfect 'Fall Lip' without the designer price tag, disappointingly the high-street appeared to fall despairingly short in this area until I stumbled across Black Cherry! In the tube it can be quite misleading as it looks to be a deep aging brown, but on swatching it reveals to be a most glorious deep, warm, blackened burgundy-plum shade. This modest lipstick rivals so many similar shades out there from MAC and the likes and is earning it's time in the spotlight this fall. Again, another rising shade.
5. Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer: Galaxy
I felt the need to add this as I have never mentioned Apocalips before (shocking!) and they truly are something else altogether! The shade Galaxy is a step down from the Rimmel 04, It is a sheerer purple tone that is more suggestive rather than full on. I would recommend this shade if you want to try purple lips for the first time, as it is not too overwhelming yet it gives you the tonal benefit. If you like what it does to your complexion it will be easier to try something more opaque. I am not going to dwell of Apocalips any further as I am working on a post with a full review and swatches for the not so distant future!
6. Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner: Obsession
Are you getting sick and tired of Rimmel yet? These liners from Rimmel are ever so soft and creamy and look gorgeous on the lips all by themselves! The shade, Obsession, is an exquisite earthy, plum tone, comparable but brighter than Twig!
7. Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Pencil: 011 Spice
Wahheyy almost there. 'Spice' the name is very close to what it looks like in reality. a blend of brown and orange to give you this amazing transition shade. I was drawn to this color, aside from it being pretty, because it was actually very different to what you usually get in drugstore lip products, which is a wonder since I if feel it to be such a standard color that should be offered everywhere. If you are missing Summer as I am, a Summer that came and went away without so much as a trace, then this is for you! It is what I can only describe as a 'sunset' shade, it is Summer-going-on-Autumn! A point to note though is that as a pencil, you can imagine this liner does not go on creamy like the Exaggerate liners., not terrible but some of you may be partial to certain textures.
Swatch time!
And here they are in all their Fallen glory!
From Right to Left:
Top: 04, Twig, Utopia, Galaxy, Obsession, Spice
Bottom: Black Cherry
And here is me looking really pleased with myself for finally managing to do this post!
I really do hope you enjoyed reading this post.
I apologize that they are coming so slow.
If you did, you know the drill, +1 me, like me, share me.
And say hello, your ayes and you nays put them all down below and I will get back to you!
Bye

I have picked out 4 shades that I've been loving the most this summer, shades that I feel are best appreciated in these few months, uplifting and dazzling, they remind me of the tropics. I can promise they will keep your spirits high all the way through to the fall!
1. Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate, 110
This is a gorgeous coral-red shade in a creamy-to-matte texture which gives it its sophisticated matte finish without being too drying on the lips. Similarly to the rest of the Kate collection, it carries the faintest scent of watermelon, not too over-powering and actually quite pleasant. On the lips this colour looks almost neon but don't be alarmed, its brilliantly flattering.
2. MAC, So Chaud, matte
This is a sahde seldon talked about in the beauty blogging sphere which I think is a real shame. on the lips, it looks a super vibrant deep orange which could be mistaken for red. It is a matte lipstick and being so, does feel quite dry and heavy on the lips but looks fabulous. Again this gives off a neon-like effect. Both lipsticks, due to this, also have the added benefit of making your teeth look whiter, Now there's something to smile about!
3. Revlon Super Lustrous, 750 Kiss Me Coral
This is a softer orange-going-on-terracotta color. The formula of this lipstick is very creamy and soft, it feels velvety and ultra gentle on the lips. Of all four, I find this to be the easiest to wear and also the best casual day time shade. It can be applied very lightly to give a natural looking tint to the lips, it is really effective and a method I will be using with this lipstick on an up and coming tutorial. Check back soon, you won't be disappointed. (I will link it here when published)
4. Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick, 210 Coral in Gold
Another fruity smelling lipstick, Coral in Gold is the palest in this collection. is it as it says, a lovely peachy-coral with gold shimmer and on swatching has a rose-gold look about it. It is also the least opaque of the lot so I recommend using a lip liner under it. This shade would look amazing with a tan but generally may be difficult to carry of applied all over the lips, however it worked a charm in this two toned look I produced of a tutorial. Follow here for photos.
And here are the swatches:

I discovered this shade in the winter and fell in love with it. It is one that I get loads of complements for when I wear it and have inspired several friends and family members to also purchase it for themselves. One thing that I love about this lipstick is that it is so easy to wear and complements a range of skin tones. For that reason I have been meaning to write a post on it, it is a little overdue but my preference has not changed.
It is of course the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte lipstick in 107, a deep, pink/berry color in a lovely matte consistency. If you have read my previous posts you will know how much I love matte lipsticks and if you have me on Instagram you will also know my love for Rimmel lip products.
I find that this shade looks spectacular with navy. It's strange but whenever I wear navy, I immediately crave this.
To really focus on the color wear with a natural matte skin and a flick of bold black eyeliner.
It also looks great teamed with 04, a dark purple color, applied to the corners of the mouth the create a killer two toned look.
To me this shade feels elegant yet fun and for that reason I have decided that it will be my lip color for our up and coming family wedding this summer.

It, however, is not specifically my favorite summer shade. I am obsessing over an exclusive group of lipstick tones this summer but that will be another post soon to come, so keep your eyes peeled.
Well that's the end of my rave, I'd love to hear from you. Let me know what you think of this shade and also what your own personal all time favorites are and why.. :)
Lots of love xx

Lipstick is by and large my ultimate, all time favourite cosmetic item. I cannot resist an immaculately carved glossy bullet in all those bright, bold jewel colours. The Shamima-classic would be a bold matte red and the rest of my then quite limited collection ranged between that and dark pink. An assortment of similar but different shades of red-pink tones in various finishes where for a great stretch of my teen years the dominant colours. Believe it, nudes and soft pinks did not exist in my colour vocabulary. I am not entirely sure of the reason for it. I did feel that the darker shades suited me better; I could never go wrong with them, they made my complexion look brighter and healthier. Pinks and nudes in contrast too often appeared too pale, too sickly on me and made my face look ashen. I suppose you could say that I restricted myself by never straying far down that end of the counter, I reduced the chances of myself accidently stumbling upon something new and completely unexpected. And for a long time I remained there fumbling around in that dark, narrow tunnel of mine when things where just starting to get boring when-
-the new Boots store at the Trinity in Leeds city centre were doing a charity 'beauty' lucky dip!
Knowing my luck I wasn't surprised that I pulled out a tiny anti-aging crème sample that was of little interest to me and on my second go, a sample of Smashbox's primer- the very same sample that I'd already been given for free that very same day! Ah well.
My flatmate on the other hand pulled out a No7 eyeliner (I cannot for the life of me remember which one or in what colour) and a No7 lipstick (three guesses as to which one?) both of which were generously of full size. Not at all bad for £2.
So away home, back in our flat, we sat down to inspect the fruit of our day. Now I had never been interested in No7 for cosmetics, they just looked so bland and so boring, and so darn mature! It is the brand my Mum and her generation gush over. I had some idea of their skincare being of good quality but they felt to me as being marketed towards to middle-aged and people interested in reducing their Crow's feet, their fine lines and their wrinkles.
And the colour? 'Classic Rose' is not a bright pink, it is not particularly dark either but it is at the deeper end of pink, it is also cooler toned to what I was used to with a hint of purple, dare I say ever so slightly mauve-y? There is no red it in that is for sure and it is completely matte (as is the whole range) so it sits on the lips quite opaque, letting little of your natural lip colour through. For that reason I would not call it a natural tone and most certainly not my-lips-but-better. It is a colour that can speak for itself. With it on my lips, I am usually compelled to team it will either gentle, warm, well blended gold nudes on the eyes and bronzer to warm up the face or a flick of black liner and mascara with a cool blush for a fresh-faced, I-mean-business, office look.
Would you be surprised if I now told you that I went out soon afterwards, and grabbed No7's Stay Perfect lipstick in the very shade 'Classic Rose' just 15 minutes before closing time, half panting from my power walk there in order to make in time. And I came out feeling victorious, I'd got it, it was mine! And although I did not fish this out of a basket of shredded paper and polystyrene for a pound, a still feel that I'd gotten a great deal (hah! It is one of the most expensive high-street lipsticks you can get).
It has a treasured place among my orderly row of lipsticks, and although sticks out somewhat awkwardly (at 8.5 centimetres, it is a rather gangly canister that is wider at the top than at the base and of an almost metallic-like, glossy, black-brown colour). It have 'No7' engraved onto the lid, and the product itself is not even in the pointed bullet I love so much, but a flat-headed, slim stick of pigment.
And to wear? Well, with it being a matte lipstick it is a little drying which will not appeal to everyone. On my lips it feels as though it has a creamy consistency where it has some movement when you press your lips together but it otherwise stays put. As I mentioned earlier, it is opaque and very long-lasting as promised by the range 'Stay Prefect'.
If you cannot tell already, I absolutely adore this lipstick and this particular colour! I cannot believe that I have looked past these lipsticks for so long, and I am so very grateful to have been introduced to it all thanks to that very lucky lucky-dip! I highly recommend the Stay Perfect lipsticks to you, especially if you are a matte lipstick lover like me and I most certainly will be back to No7 to try out more shades available from this range.
