Oops, looks like another drugstore beauty haul, terrible, terrible me! But at least I get to tell you about some of the new products I have discovered and having been loving recently.

First up are two Sleek products. These are actually my first ever Sleek buys. Up until recently I had always dismissed the brand as being of poor quality having spotted it years ago before it became a cult beauty brand in an unimpressive Asian fashion catalogue. With its growing popularity however, it has been difficult to maintain that view and after being reassured by some Instagramers I resolved to give them a try.

I opted for the Ultra Mattes Dark palette as matte colours are generally difficult to come by in eye shadow palettes and I felt I would get a lot of use out of it and the Blush by 3 palette in Lace which had amazing colours perfect for the summer.
I also bought the L'oreal False Lash Telescopic mascara after reading endless positive reviews on it and also the Super Liner Blackbuster liquid liner. I was interested in picking up their lipsticks too but the testers were so badly kept and kept falling out that I gave up on the idea.
From Revlon I went for a Super Lustrous lipstick in Kiss me Coral (you know how I can't resist lipstick) another colour I have been wanting for the turn of the season.
A further product I had been persuaded to try are the Rimmel Lip Laquers. Initially I wasn't particularly interested in these, I am not much of a lip-gloss person and I assumed that they would be fussy and sticky and I would have to suffer intense pigment bleeding outside of my lip line but I thought I would buy at least one and give it a try. I stole my hovering hands away from the red and settle for Stellar, an almost neon-like hot pink. It is not a colour I've tried and I thought it would make for an interesting change.
I also wanted to try a new foundation. The Bourjois Healthy Mix has some pretty impressive reviews, and having already bought foundations from several other drugstore brands, I thought I'd give this one a shot.
And of course I could not forget the sunscreen. I went for the Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced SPF 50+. The strength of it may seem much but better safe ey? I did also buy the handbag sized version of it with SPF 30 but I have entrusted it upon my little brother after he came home from sports day looked like a roasted peanut. It has gotten me a little worried so I've had him keep it in his school bag.

The Garnier Pure Active is a repurchase of mine and my favourite face wash. This is actually the second time I am buying a face wash from them in two weeks, they keep changing the packaging around and since they have several similar products I get confused, I ended up buying the wrong one the last time.
I admit after all this I even sniffed around the make-up brushes but the ones I was looking for were out of stock.
And that is the end of it.
If you wish for me to do a review on any of these products just let me know :)

I just wanted to share this amazing offer with you all. As part of their Festival Flash Sale, my favourite online beauty retailer, Feel Unique, is offering 20% off any and all Elemis products for one day only. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to try their products for the first time or to stock up on an item you are already using.
Two products worth taking a look at:
The Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm - a waxy cleanser, fantastic for dry skin but generally suitable for all.
Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel - enzyme exfoliators are far more effective than mechanical exfoliators (with beads) and require to be used less often. They leave the skin feeling soft and supple and looking radiant while getting rid of surface dead skin cells.

As if cosmetic shopping for myself is not enough, I've lately taken up the challenge of doing so for my mummy. Having always had cosmetics bought for me by my Mum during those inexperienced pre-teen years when even a display at Superdrug seemed daunting to me, it is high time that I return that favour by doing the same for her. My mum, while not being a make-up junkie, has interest in make up like any other woman, however she does not tend to venture out and try different products could ultimately lead her to find those best suited to her. For that reason I feel obliged to go out and do it for her.
Foundation:
Source: Personal image (all images on this post)
With Mum, I have always noticed that her foundation tends to look flaky and always, always has an ashy appearance. This pointed towards the fact that her skin was dry and her current foundation was far too matte and that she needed a yellow-toned shade.
My first foundation purchase for her was the Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation. At the time, I was getting nowhere trying to convince her that she needed a darker, yellower foundation and so opted for a lighter colour, knowing she would approve. As you can see, the foundation was well loved and is pretty much finished. The cakey, flaky, ashy look however was not yet defeated.
At the end of the previous year Illamasqua had one of their enormous sales, grasping the opportunity, I made a colossal purchase. Amongst them was the Light Liquid foundation in 215. As this was an online purchase, I tried to make a decent guesstimate as to her shade using online shade comparison charts and contrasting it to my own.
I was not at all convinced by the texture of this foundation nor of its shade when it had arrived. A few days of sticking to this and even Mum admitted it looked dull and ashy.
Having tried and failed to drag my mum away for a make-up spree and colour matching in Manchester (I cannot even get her to come into town with me due to her crazy schedule) I took myself to our local boots and swatched away at their various foundations.
Maybelline Fit Me attracted my attention. To my delight, the shade 220 was a most glorious match. It was creamy and blended into her skin so effortlessly you could hardly tell it was there, the undertones was sufficiently yellow giving her skin a lovely glowing look as opposed to the usual ash. I was happy, Mum was happy - success!
The Illamasqua Under-Eye Concealer in 215 was also amongst the Illamasqua haul. Mum has never used concealer so I thought it would be good for her to test it out and form her own opinion of them. There is so urgent call for them though.
Lipsticks:
Mum and I agree on the point that we both love a good lipstick over gloss any day. However where I like my deep bold bright shades, Mum is always on the lookout for that perfect my-lips-but-better colour.
Maybelline Moisture Drench lipstick in 670 Natural Rosewood:
I bought the Maybelline along with few other goodies for her birthday (or was it Mother's day?). While it wasn't perfect, Mum seemed to like it well enough to wear fairly regularly.
Illamasqua lipstick in Utopia:
Haul product. I bought this shade, an antique gold-brown colour, because I felt it was interesting but safe and when worn lightly, can be very pretty. I think Mum disagrees.
Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in 19:
I did a massive Rimmel haul last week (see Instagram for pictures) I have no idea what possessed me at the time. I love my Rimmel lippies so I thought it the perfect opportunity to introduce a new colour to my mum. Mum had said her perfect shade would be a browny-pink, I felt no.19 had that gorgeous earthy-rose look to it which fit that description quite well. However this lipstick was still a tad too pink for Mum to wear comfortable... ah well, guess I'm still on the lookout for that illusive perfect colour.
Skincare:
Caudalie Premier Cru trial sizes:
I bought this pair from lastestinbeauty.com. Initially it was for myself but I found that I did not use it often and felt my mum would get more use out of it so I passed it on. One thing that annoyed me with the company was that when the products arrive half of the cream tube was filled with air, I really felt like sending an angry ranting email to them but had so much going I never got round to it.
Dior Capture XP Anti-Wrinkle Correction night cream sample size:
You may recall me mentioning a particular lucky dip (read more), well this mini was one of my wins. Again I felt Mum's skin would do it more justice so gave that away too.
Eyes and Brows:

HD Brow Beater:
Mum complains about her untameable eyebrows and how she likes to comb them but they never stay in place. This product came in a Glossybox, initially I was really happy to have more HD Brows products but soon realise that it was not something that I needed. Mum would appreciate it more.
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow Stick in 003 Bad Girl Bronze:
Another haul product I picked up, firstly because it is a most gorgeous bronze-brown colour and secondly because it has a smooth consistency that makes it easy to blend out. Mum likes things that are non-fussy, simple and quick, a swipe of this and she's good to go. I was going to get the paler in this range so she could create a two toned look with little effort but the products in the store had been open and looked awfully messy - maybe another time.
No7 Smokey Powder Eyeliner in Black:
I actually bought this for my aunt whilst getting my No7 lipstick in Leeds (read more), I was in fact looking for a liquid liner but in my rush I picked this up instead. I did not really want to go back and return it so I offered it to my mum. She was delighted, I didn't realise that she loved no7 products. The product does give quite a bit of fall out which is problematic but it still appears to be a firm favourite of Mum's, and unexpected winner!

Source: personal image price: £24.50
I picked this primer up whilst browsing the Benefit counter in Manchester a weak ago, well attempting to anyway. After being hounded by the sales person and bombarded with phrases like: very creamy, stays on all day, good for dry skin, will make your make up go on more radiant etc, etc, and having obscure swatches placed across my hand (I really did not know what I was meant to be looking for) I gave in and purchased the little critter. At £24.50 it does not come cheap and on walking out of the store, I was really hoping I hadn't purchased another flop.

I have never really been impressed by primers or their out-of-this-world claims. The likes of MAC and Smashbox are still sitting quite as they were when I first got them in my make up collection - rarely used. If I am to be strictly honest with you, after having smoothed either of the products mentioned onto my face I am left doubting whether there really is anything on there. Should I add more? But aren't I only supposed to use a pea sized amount? Is it working? Is it not?
Nope, not in the least bit convinced.
I was however musing over Benefit's Porefessional (my reason for walking over to the counter in the first place), I do have large pores and something that could reduce or tighten them would be beneficial for me. However, after receiving not too warm responses from friends and other bloggers, I was once again left sceptical.
Having been informed by the SA that the Stay Flawless primer would be better for my dry-to-combination skin, I had seriously concerns for my oily T zone and wondered whether it may not be too mad to use two different primers on my face for different areas. Good thing I kept walking.
The facts:
This primer is unique in that it comes in a wind up stick form. Although it appears to have colour, it actually applies translucent. It comes in the most adorable packaging, a matte black case with a white plastic tube and a clear plastic lid covered in black polka-dots. It is also small and conveniently compact.
You get 15.5g of product for your £24.50. In comparison you get 30ml (which equates to 30g) of MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage for £20.50 and 30ml of Smashbox Photoready Primer for £28. So that means:
Stay Flawless 1g = £1.58
Prep + Prime 1g = £0.68
Photoready 1g = £0.93
In other words, gram for gram, Stay Flawless is almost twice the price of the other two primers. Ouch!
Another point I should mention, before I got all mathematical I thought I would determine the amount of product I had received by winding it all the way up. And what happened? A great chunk of it fell off! Literally, just like that. Considering this was just after I had purchased it, I was pretty ticked off. So if you are going out to buy this, it might be worthwhile that you check it in store that it is not broken in the tube before making your payment.
The review:
Okay, so I was determined to put this primer through a rigorous test. I wanted to be able to give it a clear cut yay-or-no, all obscurities aside. And along came the perfect opportunity, a nice hot day, the perspiration provoking; foundation melting type of day.
Application:
I applied a good measure of the primer, swiping across my cheeks, nose chin and forehead. It does say that makeup can be applied directly to it as it is but I felt the need to smooth it out with my fingertips. The primer has that thick creamy consistently that is evident on touch; it also leaves a slightly tacky finish, very unlike the smooth finish of common silica based primers. I know this may be a con for many people who do not want to feel as though they have another layer on the face but personally, I was relieved that I can be certain that it is there.
To really push it, I opted for my BB cream instead of foundation, a creamy light base that would probably slip away in a matter of hours in this kind of heat. As I like to apply my BB cream with my fingers, I noticed immediately that it was much harder to blend out as the product dragged across my skin, quite literally as though the primer was acting like a 'magnet', or so Benefit likes to describe it. In one way this is a pro, it showed me that the primer was really holding onto my BB Cream on the downside, I did feel I needed a little more product to cover the whole surface of my face as I couldn't blend the cream out far enough.
Makeup set and finished, my afternoon was spent at a crowded talk in a classroom insufficient to fit everyone in comfortable and lacking Air Con followed by a stroll in the park. All the while the sun was beating down like it was Africa.
Throughout the day I was hot, flustered, perspiring and exhausted. I had to repeatedly dab away the beads of sweat that crept onto my upper lip (pleasant, I know) and having had no opportunity to check my reflection I was certain I would return home an utter mess.
A tentative peak into my mirror and phew - all was well. On closer inspection I could still make out my BB Cream sitting just as I had left it that morning and there was not a streak of uneven skin to be found. My t zone had not turned into an oil slick either.
My verdict:
What can I stay? I am truly impressed. My make up stayed put and I was neither too dry nor too oily, for once a primer that does as it promises. I have been wearing this primer more often now, especially having switched from foundation to BB Cream and I adore it. It has very deservedly made it to my list of top favourites. For the biggest downside, it would have to be the amount of product we are getting and the amount that we are using. Each application deposits a great deal more product than that in a single pump of gel primer, at this rate it is not going to last very long so it may not be the most economical of choices. The application issue is not a big problem either as the makeup it sits well once applied. As for their claim that it makes your makeup more radiant, or the SA's anyway, I did not really see a difference there, again I didn't mind as I didn't buy it for that purpose.
If anything, I feel that you definitely get quality for your money, I don't feel that it was £24.50 wasted. Rather that money spent on a product your going to use than one that is going to sit in a draw, neglected.
Sunday 7 July 2013
I thought I would do a post on my top 3 shoes for July seeing as today is one of those rare, blindingly sunny, sticky hot summer days and all of a suddenly we are all in the mood to whip out the shades, the sun screen and we cannot forget the sandals! For the summer, I am loving strappy numbers, sleek designs and shoes that just let my toes breath. What do you think of stepping out into the sun in these personal beauties?
Classy and Elegant:
This black pair from Zara's Spring-Summer 13 collection is bang on trend. It is simple and timeless and oh-so-demure. The shoes have a slight point to the toes and are held at the front by a single suede band. I love the sneak-up-behind-you suede back and the thin black ankle straps. The focal point of these shoes is of course their gold metal-plated heels. Just image the way they'd catch the rays on a day like this!

Boho Chic:
These Faith shoes are the most recent addition to my collection. I was drawn to the chunky features of this pair, the thick criss-crossed front straps and the triple layered ankles straps. The chunky platform and heel of this shoe give it a fun, casual, carefree feel. It has cute plaited detailing and tiny matte metal studs along the straps. The leather straps feel super soft and the natural tone that it comes in makes them a perfect accessory to any outfit. It has a back zip so there is no fussing with fiddly buckles and straps that catch your feet; you just slip them on, zip up and go!

Baby doll:
This next pair is a sky-high suede number from Dune. With a chunky platform, and thick crossed-over straps at both the ankles and over the toes, they feel as gorgeous to wear as do to look at. The straps fasten by a square buckle, which I admit is a little fiddly. But once they are on they look every bit fun and flirty. The hot pink hue adds a pop of colour to your summer outfit, whether you are clashing, matching or complimenting. They have also a very special quality about them that make them extra special, but there will be a whole post to focus on that so I shall say no more.
Shoes: from Dune Source: Personal Image
I adore every one of these shoes, they each have an individual feel about them that cannot be replaced by another pair therefore it is simply not possible for me to pick a single favourite out of the three. Perhaps you may prefer one above all others?

HD Brows, I stumbled upon this brand around... a year ago? We were introduced via the widely trumpeted online beauty-to-your-door service and a blogger favourite that I was in receipt of at the time, Glossybox. I had bought the 3 month subscription in order to get what I hoped would be a good overall feel for the company and its beautifully packaged, eagerly anticipated pale pink boxes. I went as far as to join and follow their Facebook page in order to salvage supposed hints  regarding the content of future boxes and to ascertain a degree of satisfaction having read and mostly agreed with the responses of fellow box receivers. I developed a curious interest in reading of the various items that other recipients had gotten and comparing them to my own box.

One particularly raved about product was this very palette, the reviews on it were glowing and almost 100% positive, It will come to no surprise that I too entertained the hope of one such palette befalling me. I was, of course, left disappointed after my first box failed to deliver after all the contents were mostly random and there were only so many of each to go around. Since products  for boxes turn over for each month, I knew that was little, if any, chance of me getting my hands on a palette through this route. I did a little background research on the company itself - say, did you know that HD Brows were exclusively responsible for Cher Lloyds brow transformation in the X Factor? Duly impressed, I was yet sorrier to have lost out and (at the time) struggled to find it elsewhere, it appeared only to be gotten through the HD Brows salons and I lived nowhere near one of those.
Box 2 came, and all to soon the time for box number 3 cam e around. On unwrapping my Glossybox for the last time and peering expectantly within - what do I see? Lo and behold, a HD Brow palette was nestled neatly in Glossy's trademark black shredded/crinkled paper. You cannot image my delight at that very moment! It was strange enough that they had repeated a product, but for me to have gotten one was an unforeseeable yet pleasant surprise.
Source: Personal image Price: £19.96

The facts:
The product come in a sleek black plastic compact fitted with a large mirror. it fit neatly in my palm, the perfect size for popping into your handbag and traveling. Inside it has 4 pans of powder pigment and a doubled ended brush with synthetic bristles. my palette in in 'Vamp' for dark hair. It also comes in 'Bombshell' for blondes and 'Foxy' for brunettes.

The review:
The HD brow palette has lived up to all of my greatly heightened expectations. The brush that it comes with, at first seems useless and tacky but I quickly came to realise that it is anything but. The flat-ended angle brush is perfect for drawing in the perimeter of your brows and the flat paddled brush is just the thing to fill your brows between the outer edges.

The one thing I really love about this palette is its versatility. I can create a sharp defined look with it or opt for softened brows and I can go warm or I can go cool to suit my mood and the rest of my makeup in order to create any finish I want. An added advantage of these pigments being in powder form is that it create a very natural impression, you do not get heavy thick lines or waxy deposits as you would if you were to use a pencil.

The powders themselves are very soft and finely milled. It comes with 4 colours, two brown tones, one cool, the other warm, a deep black and a very fine neutral tone. All but the pale colour are highly pigmented, the black tone in particular. The pigmentation of the black makes it well suited to filling in sparse gaps in your eyebrows and creating false strands of hairs at the front of the brows. The high pigmentation means you need only a very small amount of product to fill in your brows - a small tap of the brush on the pan - a little goes a long way with this palette.

My only qualm is with the nude colour. I assume it  is designed for cleaning around the edge of your finished brows and sharpened your look further however I do not feel as though it is pigmented enough to do this; while it is visible on a loaded brush it simply does not show up on my skin. It is really of no consequence to me as I tend to skip this step anyway, and were I to wish to do so, I could use concealer as an alternative.

This chic little palette will last me some time. I have all the colours I could need in it. It is my go to palette, during the day and later in the evening. It is highly dependable and stays put all day long. I am so pleased with this product I do not find myself the least bit drawn to colour brow palettes by different brands.
I have to thank Glossybox for introducing me to this superb product; I recommend it to you as I do to my friends and family. It has gone from a trial product to one that I now cannot do without, a handbag staple. I know that I will stay loyal to it for a long time to come. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Tuesday 2 July 2013
Lipstick is by and large my ultimate, all time favourite cosmetic item. I cannot resist an immaculately carved glossy bullet in all those bright, bold jewel colours. The Shamima-classic would be a bold matte red and the rest of my then quite limited collection ranged between that and dark pink. An assortment of similar but different shades of red-pink tones in various finishes where for a great stretch of my teen years the dominant colours. Believe it, nudes and soft pinks did not exist in my colour vocabulary. I am not entirely sure of the reason for it. I did feel that the darker shades suited me better; I could never go wrong with them, they made my complexion look brighter and healthier. Pinks and nudes in contrast too often appeared too pale, too sickly on me and made my face look ashen. I suppose you could say that I restricted myself by never straying far down that end of the counter, I reduced the chances of myself accidently stumbling upon something new and completely unexpected. And for a long time I remained there fumbling around in that dark, narrow tunnel of mine when things where just starting to get boring when-
-the new Boots store at the Trinity in Leeds city centre were doing a charity 'beauty' lucky dip!
Knowing my luck I wasn't surprised that I pulled out a tiny anti-aging crème sample that was of little interest to me and on my second go, a sample of Smashbox's primer- the very same sample that I'd already been given for free that very same day! Ah well.
My flatmate on the other hand pulled out a No7 eyeliner (I cannot for the life of me remember which one or in what colour) and a No7 lipstick (three guesses as to which one?) both of which were generously of full size. Not at all bad for £2.

So away home, back in our flat, we sat down to inspect the fruit of our day. Now I had never been interested in No7 for cosmetics, they just looked so bland and so boring, and so darn mature! It is the brand my Mum and her generation gush over. I had some idea of their skincare being of good quality but they felt to me as being marketed towards to middle-aged and people interested in reducing their Crow's feet, their fine lines and their wrinkles.
And the colour? 'Classic Rose' is not a bright pink, it is not particularly dark either but it is at the deeper end of pink, it is also cooler toned to what I was used to with a hint of purple, dare I say ever so slightly mauve-y? There is no red it in that is for sure and it is completely matte (as is the whole range) so it sits on the lips quite opaque, letting little of your natural lip colour through. For that reason I would not call it a natural tone and most certainly not my-lips-but-better. It is a colour that can speak for itself. With it on my lips, I am usually compelled to team it will either gentle, warm, well blended gold nudes on the eyes and bronzer to warm up the face or a flick of black liner and mascara with a cool blush for a fresh-faced, I-mean-business, office look.
Would you be surprised if I now told you that I went out soon afterwards, and grabbed No7's Stay Perfect lipstick in the very shade 'Classic Rose' just 15 minutes before closing time, half panting from my power walk there in order to make in time. And I came out feeling victorious, I'd got it, it was mine! And although I did not fish this out of a basket of shredded paper and polystyrene for a pound, a still feel that I'd gotten a great deal (hah! It is one of the most expensive high-street lipsticks you can get).
It has a treasured place among my orderly row of lipsticks, and although sticks out somewhat awkwardly (at 8.5 centimetres, it is a rather gangly canister that is wider at the top than at the base and of an almost metallic-like, glossy, black-brown colour). It have 'No7' engraved onto the lid, and the product itself is not even in the pointed bullet I love so much, but a flat-headed, slim stick of pigment.
And to wear? Well, with it being a matte lipstick it is a little drying which will not appeal to everyone. On my lips it feels as though it has a creamy consistency where it has some movement when you press your lips together but it otherwise stays put. As I mentioned earlier, it is opaque and very long-lasting as promised by the range 'Stay Prefect'.
If you cannot tell already, I absolutely adore this lipstick and this particular colour! I cannot believe that I have looked past these lipsticks for so long, and I am so very grateful to have been introduced to it all thanks to that very lucky lucky-dip! I highly recommend the Stay Perfect lipsticks to you, especially if you are a matte lipstick lover like me and I most certainly will be back to No7 to try out more shades available from this range.

Monday 1 July 2013
I must own I had never really been an avid mascara user in the past; possibly because the temptation to pull out what sparse eyelashes I have was too great a force to resist, but more likely because I would inevitably create an enormous mess when it came to cleaning it off in the evening. Panda eyes will never be attractive and the reflection of my ink-stained face could be so terrifying I had to keep my eyes tightly shut throughout the whole painful process. No, mascara was reserved for the occasions where I simply could not do without it, and even then I admit I would try to get away with false eye lashes alone. Now that I come to think of it, my earliest mascara also belonged to the Maybelline family, I remember it being it was a charm to wear; I adored it so much I repurchased it twice.
So when I came to reassess my everyday makeup collection and realised I that I was losing out on the 'oomph' factor that my eye makeup could potentially have by omitting mascara, I resolved to filling that gap. As you would expect, I took to the internet for research. I scoured beauty blogs and YouTube reviews in order to make an informed decision as to the brand and product to buy. I knew wanted something suitable for everyday use, something that gave my eyelashes a full and lengthened look and  something relatively inexpensive as I am a student and I expect to use it often. I cannot be too sure whether my choice to finally settled on yet another Maybelline  product over all other brands was due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews that it was showered in or as a result of some deep-set internal bias.

Whatever it was, the decision was made and as I was too busy (or too lazy) to venture out into our delightful British climate, I ordered it off the Feel Unique website at £6.07 in the colour '100% black', which is a great price considering both Boots and Superdrug sell it for £7.19. I was pleased that it arrived promptly along with a few other goodies, well boxed and packaged and nestled within a million of those green bean-like polystyrene things - they make an unbelievable amount of mess, and having knocked my box over more than once, I highly recommend that you get rid of them ASAP.

Source: own product image Price: £6.07 (Feel Unique) £7.19 (Boots/Superdrug)
The facts:
As you can see in the photo, the mascara comes in bright yellow plastic packaging, it feels firm to hold and hard wearing, unlikely to fall apart with one forceful thug. The wand head is rather dense, with your average short plastic bristles packed in to a spiral. It contains 10.7ml of product with a thick but not clumpy or dry consistency. So far so good.
My verdict:
Well I must say, this product certainly delivers its due, it is as it says on the tin. I noticed it effect after a single coat of mascara. My eyelashes were instantly fuller and thick and longer. It also dries quickly so you can be rest assured the  risk of transferring product all over your meticulously blended eye shadow is small. The dense wand head can pack in a lot of product, enough to do an entire eye without having to re-dip the wand back into the tube. However due to this it does tend to makes it rather difficult to apply it to the fine bottom lashes, too much product on my bottom lashes gives them a crazy clumpy look, rather like the legs of some unpleasant insect sprouting out of your waterline - nice.
The product also appears to be more volumizing than lengthening, and by that I mean that two or more coats of mascara will not lengthen you lashes any further but the build up of product on them can risk your eyelashes looking mad and clumpy.
The product does give a decent amount of curl to your lashes which can be achieved by rolling the wand head along the length of you eyelashes as you apply mascara and gently press them backwards towards, but not touching, your eyelids. You can use eyelash curler to make it more dramatic, or if like me, you have one eye with curlier eyelashes than the other, an eyelash curler is the best way to make them even.

I have noticed that after a few hours of application, that the mascara does not dry to become stiff over the eyelashes. While this gives my eyelashes a spread out natural look and retains the eyelashes' movement and flexibility it also mean that they will lose their curl faster than if they were stiffened.

The product also flakes off and I get bits of fall out on the top of my cheeks that I need to keep wiping away. That might explain why there appears to be less product on my eyelashes than what I am sure I applied in the morning.
Those first few shortcomings I mentioned are most certainly not exclusive to the Colossal Volume Express Mascara and can be easily overcome (post on this coming soon) hence I do not feel that they affected my general good opinion of this mascara in any significant way. The last two cannot really be amended other than by reapplying.
Having said that, this mascara does have one humungous, undeniable failing that has left me sorely disappointed with it. It is a matter that I am astonished to have never come upon any of the reviews that I had watched and read.

I know that this mascara is not waterproof. I tend not to go for waterproof mascara because I hate fighting with it in order to get it off. But all previous non-waterproof mascaras that I had owed, including the Maybelline one have been sufficiently resilient to little splashes of water, the little drizzles of rain or dampness from the eyes. This mascara however, appears to lose its integrity entirely and melts away on touching water, which in my opinion is very scary. If I lightly splash my face with water, something I tend to do, I get droplets with mascara dissolved in them staining my face and my sink. And as you very well know, my annual hay-fever started a few weeks ago accompanied by the occasional watery-eye. I made the mistake of wearing this mascara on one of those eye-watering days while out in town and trust me, the sight in the mirror was pitiful; I was just relieved that I had not bumped into anyone I knew on my way home. I cannot even walk in the rain with this mascara on, and the unpredictability of our British weather makes me a little nervous when I do apply it on a reasonably dry day.
It is with deep regret that I now must give my verdict: no matter how good this mascara looks when applied, this one significant weakness of its' has defeated me, it is not at all dependable and I cannot feel confident when wearing it and for that reason, I will not be repurchasing it again, which is a real shame because in every other way it was great. In future I may however opt for the waterproof version of this.

I suppose that this now means that I am still on the lookout for a good, reliable, everyday mascara that I can swear by.
